Chemical Relaxing and Smoothing Techniques

Students will be able to perform a client consultation for chemical relaxing by analyzing the client’s hair and scalp, identify texture, porosity, elasticity and density as it relates to chemical relaxing to determine the client’s desired outcome.  They will differentiate between the various types of relaxers, identify materials and implements necessary for procedure, demonstrate draping for service, and prepare hair for hair relaxing method to be used.

Students will be able to perform a professional relaxer service by reading and following the manufacturer’s directions for hair relaxing products.  They will demonstrate sectioning, apply a protective cream on client, apply a relaxer, and perform spreading method with brush, comb, and fingers.  Students will perform a virgin relaxer, a retouch relaxer, and demonstrate a test strand.  Students will demonstrate neutralizing techniques and record client information in an accurate and timely manner.  They will also research and identify other industry trends for smoothing and relaxing hair.
