Health Technology Courses

Freshman Year

Shop

The Freshman students will focus on infection control measures and correct body mechanics. Many different health care environments will be discussed. The students will participate in their first clinical placement, focusing on bed making, transportation, communication and employability skills. The students will be introduced to medical terminology. They will also begin studying some major illnesses, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, and gastrointestinal diseases along with the corresponding body systems.

Sophomore Year

Shop

The sophomore students are introduced to patient care skills, physical and emotional needs of patients, and the various health care environments. Growth and development is a major focus this year. The students will be learning the basics of first aid and become certified through the American Heart Association in CPR. Students will complete the 12 hour training for Person Centered Dementia Certification through the Alzheimer's Association.

Junior Year

Shop

Juniors prepare to take the Certified Nursing Assistant Exam. In long-term care and acute care facilities they perform direct patient care, acquiring real life work experience. Reinforcement of key concepts such as infection control, safety, and communication are ongoing.

Senior Year

Shop

Senior Health Technology students will continue their study towards a career in healthcare by participation in numerous clinical rotations at various facilities. The students will study to become an EKG Technician and upon successful completion of the course they will take the National Healthcareer Association exam to become a Certified EKG Technician.
