What is Metal Fabrication & Joining Technologies?

In the Metal Fabrication program, students will learn the trades of Welding, Sheetmetal and Metal Fabrication. Students will be taught the safe and proper use of power shears, welding machines, hand and power brakes, CNC plasma cutting tables, and bandsaws. Students will weld various metals using Oxy-acetylene (Gas), GMAW (MIG), SMAW (Stick) and GTAW (TIG) equipment. Students will be issued and trained on how to properly wear safety Personal Protective Equipment. The shop is equipped with 12 state of the art welding booths with independent ventilation. Students will also learn the art of Blacksmithing and the history of metal working. Students will be able to layout and fabricate Sheetmetal pans, funnels, pipe, ductwork and fittings. Junior year students will have the opportunity to take the D1.5 structural bridge welding certification. Administered by a certified welding inspector from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Qualified students will be able to participate in the cooperative educational program and working for vetted and qualified Metal fabrication employers.

In related class, students will study Welding and Sheetmetal equipment and supplies. Students will be able to draw and read mechanical and architectural blueprints and weld symbols. Students will also learn job interview skills and resume building. Students will acquire OSHA 10hr manufacturing safety and Massachusetts Hot Works certifications. Students will also be taught to become safe and productive professionals, ready for the workforce, military or collage.
