What is Cosmetology?

This course will prepare students for the Massachusetts State Board of Cosmetology Theory and Practical Written Licensure Examination.  Upon completion of 1000 hours of training students will be eligible for employment in the field of Cosmetology.  

Students will be trained in the areas of: Fundamentals of Health and Safety, Infection Control, Customer Service and Communication Skills, Marketing Products and Service, Professional Salon Business, Scalp Care, Shampooing and Conditioning, Wet Hairstyling, Blow Dry Styling, Thermal Hair Styling, Braiding, Hair Removal, Facial Treatment, Makeup Application, Nail Care, Hair Shaping, Hair Coloring, Permanent Waving, Chemical Relaxing and Smoothing Techniques, Wigs and Hair Enhancements, Career Exploration and Navigation, Communication in the Workplace, Work Ethic and Professionalism, Starting a Business, Managing a Business, Marketing a Business, Financial Concepts and Applications in Business, Legal/Ethical/Social Responsibilities, Technology Literacy Knowledge and Skills

All work is completed on male and female manikins with all types of hair textures.  Students will work on each other and have the opportunity to work on clients from the public in our Minuteman Salon.
